What is an Uplink port?

An Uplink port is a common port on a switch. It is a port that facilitates cascading between two switches. Connected to other hubs or switches through a certain port of a hub (or switch), after cascading, each hub or switch is still logically multiple managed devices. Devices connected through the cascade port do not require a cross-over cable. It uses the same channel as its adjacent common UTP port, so if an Uplink port is used, another common port adjacent to it cannot be used. These two ports are called shared ports and cannot be used at the same time. When cascading, you can use a common network cable (both ends of the network cable follow the same standard, that is, EIA/TIA 568A or 568B) to connect the common port of one switch with the Uplink port of another switch.
