Can a PoE switch be used as a normal switch?
PoE switch is a new type of multi-function switch. With the wide application of PoE switch, people have a certain understanding of PoE switch. However, many people think that PoE switches can generate electricity by themselves. This statement is not correct. Generally speaking, PoE switch power supply refers to PoE switches supplying power to other devices through network cables, and at the same time, the function of transmitting data is not lost. So, can a PoE switch be used as a normal switch?
A PoE switch is a switch with PoE function, which can be connected with ordinary switches. It can transmit data while supplying power, and the main function of ordinary switches is to exchange data, and does not have the function of power supply. For example, in the case of no power supply, there is a surveillance camera connected to a common switch using a network cable. There is no doubt that this surveillance camera cannot work normally. In the same situation, this surveillance camera is connected to a PoE switch through a network cable. Then this surveillance camera can work normally, which is the essential difference between PoE switches and ordinary switches.
For security monitoring systems, the use of PoE switches is a good choice. It can not only avoid additional power wiring costs and reduce labor costs, but also improve the flexibility of the system, simplify later upgrades and maintenance, and high-performance PoE The switch can manage each PoE port and the power supply of the device, which is more convenient for administrators to control, and these are the advantages that ordinary switches do not have.
Can a PoE switch be used as a normal switch?
The PoE switch has the function of a switch, of course, it can be used as a normal switch, but when used as a normal switch, it does not maximize the value of the PoE switch, but wastes the powerful functions of the PoE switch. If you do not need to provide DC power to the connected devices and only need to transmit data, it is recommended that you use a normal switch. If you need not only data transmission but also power supply, it is recommended that you choose a PoE switch.
In summary, PoE switches can be used as ordinary switches, but we do not recommend using PoE switches as ordinary switches, which will waste the powerful functions of PoE switches to a large extent, and the cost of PoE switches will be higher than that of PoE switches. The price of ordinary switches is slightly higher, so using PoE switches instead of ordinary switches is not worth the loss. If you need to meet the needs of power supply and data transmission at the same time, it is recommended that you choose a high-performance, cost-effective PoE switch.
